Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Friday that he expected to know defensive tackle Grady Jackson’s playing status soon as NFL commissioner Roger Goodell indicated that a decision would be made on Jackson’s status before the season begins next month.

Jackson accused of using a diuretic, a kind of masking agent for steroids, last season, but he has not been suspended yet and was still taking part in team activities wearing lions jersey.

There has been five NFL players suspended for the same alleged violation, including Kevin and Pat Williams of the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans defensive ends Charles Grant, Will Smith and former Saints running back Deuce McAllister. I guess the league has not made decision to suspend Jackson partly because the NFL Players Association has a federal appeal pending in an attempt to aid the five suspended players.
